:DD Early happy holidays!

I was wanting to write a 'proper' entry for yuletide but I'm getting ill. :( Just been feeling a little dehydrated over the last couple of days, coupled with a mild temperature and lethargy. Bleh.

I got probably got eight-hundred words done too, which is annoying. =___= But I wouldn't want to post it either because they seemed to very much ooc. :( Except, with those characters, it can be ic. It was a bit too much for my brain to handle. *grumble* I'll see what it's like in the morning, and then probably go look around for a beta.

:D Yeeeeeey~~~ This semester is. Over. And this is the first winter break of uni that I've had that I don't have coursework or exams looming as soon as I get back. :3 Except we're getting our marks at the same time as last year. =/ Hmm.

I felt a lot better about the Lifespan exam, but I'd say that should have passed both of my exams. I just feel annoyed with the Animal exam, because with two of the questions, I answered them pretty much what the lecture notes had said, because I couldn't really add to it - even though I'd done more extra reading, showing that you've done that gives you extra marks. =/ The first question was horrible for Animal. Not to mention, we had to also say the latin names of the animals we were talking about - none of us psychologists knew that, and we all got a comment on our coursework telling us to do so. XD I spent just as much time trying to remember the names as the researcher's names. And then I had Pan Troglodytes, Pan Paniscus, Hylobates Lar, and Crocuta Crocuta echoing in my head for about two days after. XD;;

Yeah, I don't know if it's because I've had so many exams, or it's ... well, I've had too many exams/years of study and I just don't care any more but I really wasn't stressed about the exams. *shrugs* About two seconds of 'Will I pass?' and then back down again. It wasn't completely feeling confident about being able to answer the questions either. Eh.

I then had a meeting with my honours project supervisor on the Friday. XD;; So I had to go back to uni. Up the horrible hill, but at least the snow hadn't been pounded into ice yet (omg yey! Snow! :D). Yeah, talking with P, she said that there'd been a few accidents just outside that campus - one bus had skidded blocking the road, and on the day before, she's seen a car that was upside down!!

:D I got my critical bibliography mark back from her - 63%. A whole three marks towards my final grade! =P So I now have five marks guaranteed for my honours project.

She was pleased that I was planning to do my lit. review and methods over the holidays, and we planned the schedule of the rest of it for next semester - two weeks for gathering data, two weeks for transcribing the interviews, two weeks for anaysis, and then two weeks for the discussion. @___@ Waaaa... It may not be as hard as I thought it would be to get participants - grab four/five friends from my year, the year below will probably be more interested in volunteering because this is what they'll be doing next year, so that leaves me only the lower years to try and convince. She also suggested that I get in contact with R, because he'd just started a 'volunteer for honours project'... thing this year, so people could have signed up for that. *cough* I'd meant to, but I kept getting distracted. Er, yeah, haven't e-mailed him yet. =/

Something which I found amusing/ironic? dunno, anyway, was that C, the person I'm studying with (and poor her, her supervisor is the supervisor we had last semester DD:), her boyfriend is doing a PhD, and his uni sent him to tutor higher maths at my old high school. XD;; From what C told me, the pupils just 'shut up and listened' to him, and complained about the bad teaching. Yeah, from what I remember of there, it was really bad.

XD;;; Noooo. If you ask me, I might end up writing it! ... Well, okay, that's not really a bad thing. :)

Hmm, my current (last ones anyway, they've died down since I haven't fed them recently) obsessions are 1/2 Prince and Vagrant Story. *eyes them* *eyes them again* *gets instant connection* Great, two high fantasy settings. ;p I'm not even halfway through Vagrant story yet (except I've spoiled myself quite a bit on ciceqi's awesome fics), so I could have better and actual plotbunnies later. I dunno, a very badly connected teleport circle on both sides? -___- It won't explain how a real person ends up in a virtual one, other than 'the Dark made it so'.

I squee'd so much when I saw that both of them are on the yuletide list. :D

2. Could you tell me a bit more about the school system in Scotland? I wonder how it's like~
XD Probably very confusing? I remember trying to explain the system to another American years ago, while she told me the same back and just... It got very long to say the least. XD

We've only got two schools - primary school, and high school. Primary school goes from P1 to P7, and people usually start around about when they're four. High school is S1 to S6, starting about ten or eleven, and the minimum leaving age is sixteen.

I didn't actually realise this, but Scotland education goes along the lines of 'give them as much choice as possible'. In third and fourth year of high school (ages usually about fourteen and fifteen), we're doing eight subjects altogether in one year. In England, they'd be doing five.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. ^ ^

3. Anything you're looking forward to during break?
:D Having a break! Fair enough, I've got the four thousand word long intro/lit. review and methods section to write over the holiday, but because of the bibliography, I've done most of the reading already. I wrote one of my courseworks in two days after doing all the reading for it.

I'm also looking forward to catching up on 1/2 Prince. *thumbs up*

Hopefully writing fic and drawing very bad fanart. :3

4. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you want to change? (if there's anything, of course~)
Probably my height, so that I'm at least over five feet tall. -____-' I'm four feet, *checks online* nine inches. 144cm tall. =P It's really no wonder I get asked if my parents are with me when I'm buying a certificate twelve dvd/game.

5. What do you do when you have writer's block?
That would depend on how into the fic I'm writing. Does this even make sense?

Anyway. If it's something that I've been losing interest in, I'd probably just drop it and focus my attentions on my other wips. ^ ^;; Not good. If it's something I'm interested in, then I'll leave it for a while, take a break from it, re-read what I've done and then start trying to re-imagine what I'd wanted in my mind, or make changes it. If that doesn't work, I'll just write out the dialogue that I want so that I don't get bogged down by trying to figure out what word I want to describe something or other.

;p My default seems to be 'work on something else'. My problem is that I then get caught up on what I was using to distract myself and then don't go back to the original one. ^ ^;;

I also sometimes try to watch the original canon again, but that could just end up giving me more plotbunnies...

Actually, this reminds me of something. I was watching my boyfriend play WoW a couple of weeks ago and he went to the instance, Culling of Stratholme. In this instance, since he's a horde character, the group gets turned into humans. Anyway, one death knight started off as male outside, but when he goes in, he's female. He said something about getting kicked from the server while in there, and because of a glitch, he turned female every single time he went in.

X____X Haaa... It's been a long time hasn't it? Long enough that it took me a few seconds to remember what my password was.

Finished and handed in all four of the courseworks, and I've got two of them back, and ethical clearance for my honours project. :D (Apart from the fact I'm going to have to interview at least twenty people, at most, forty, for it. Noooo...) The last hand-in, I can go collect, but I'm a little busy with studying for exams at the moment.

@___@ My exams are on the fifteenth and the sixteenth. Gaaaah. Not. Good. We got really good specific hints for Lifespan Development but not for Animal Behaviour. =/ The Animal Behaviour one is a little more complicated, because we have to answer one question from the first section and two from the second section. Not only that, J had about seven topics, but his section only has three questions, while A's done about eight, and she's got six questions.

To cover themselves, the other people we've talked to are doing five topics from each side. O____O I'm just covering five altogether.

I'm really not feeling very confident about these exams.

So, I'd said that the people doing Animal Behaviour had been told that last year, half of the psychologists failed while the other half got firsts? Yeah, well, I don't think it's just because the module's 'weird' or whatever - hello? Four hand-ins in the space of three weeks? I didn't see some people for five or six weeks!

After the last honours project hand-in (uh... the 11th of November) I haven't been thinking about it because exams! omg. This entire semester has been so packed full of stuff, and has had a huge general feeling of lack of time. =/ I don't think next semester is going to be much better because I'll be actually gathering the data for the honours project then and, well, six hours to transcribe one forty-minute interview. And I'll be writing my lit. review over christmas. :P

Life? What life? I haven't written anything that wasn't taking notes or writing essays for aaaaages. D: But I so so wanna.

I've probably missed a ton of other stuff but I think that's all the main stuff that's been happening.

Is there anything major that I've missed?

D: I haven't read the new chapters of 1/2 Prince (the novel chapters or the manga chapters) because of all this, and I wanted to squee publically over them. Hopefully I can do it soon.

So my internet's been a little weird over the last... idunno, since July or September. It wouldn't let me do certain things, like log into MSN messenger, or listen to kerrang radio. I didn't think much of it, since I could still access the internet.

Don't know what's happened, but I can't access the internet on my computer anymore - except my vista sidebar still shows the weather, and the icon in the bottom right corner says that I'm still connected to the internet.

In other news, I've pretty much finished my Animal Behaviour essay. :D It's not up to my usual standards, but I'm still editing it and I still need to make up probably another hundred words. ... Shouldn't be that hard, right?

After that, I guess I should try filling out the ethics form and start doing the Lifespan Development essay. *grumble*

Honours Project

So.... Showed lecturers my project proposal today.

They said I can't do it.

I need to think of a new topic (one connected with psychology), find references (and they should be from a psychological point of view), and write up a new proposal.

By tomorrow, 4pm.

I am so screwed it's not even funny. I know it's for five percent, but I should know what I'm doing by now, and I've got other coursework to go prepare for!

I don't know how to make the tangent topic project psychological (and neither does the lecturer who gave me the idea).

So I was able to see C on Wednesday (he didn't answer my e-mail on the Tuesday, I had to phone him after three and eventually saw him at four, since I was on another campus. X___X). My conclusion after his first sentence? He sounds like Snape. He talks a little faster, and his voice is a little higher than Alan Rickman's but yeah... (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows are going to be done in two parts? Didn't know that.)

Talked to him about the project, and found that the person who I e-mailed my project proposal (M) is pretty concerned about me since I don't have a topic. ^ ^;; I had to choose whether I wanted to have writing as my topic or as my method. If I'd chosen having writing as my topic, that would have meant that I would have had to go e-mail another lecturer, possibly not even hear back from them until Friday, meet them on Monday... I have to hand in my final draft of the proposal on Wednesday. =/

So now my topic is how an undergraduate's experience of university affected their attitude towards (higher) education, using probably interviews and discourse analysis. C did warn my that doing discourse is hard, especially since what we've been doing for the last three years is quantitative and the one time we've done qualitative was the IPA stuff, in second year, which isn't the same as discourse analysis.

Yeah. Remember how I said back then that I definitely wasn't going to be doing IPA in fourth year because it was so much like doing an English essay? *snerk* XD;; How things change.

From the few discourse articles I've read so far, yeah, this is completely different from what I'd done before - much harder. More in-depth. Much more work.

He said that last year, two people did discourse analysis, and one failed, even though they really wanted to do it. But, that's one out of two. =/ M's saying the same with Animal Behaviour – half of the students last year passed it with firsts, while the other half failed. She kept saying this so much that two people left the module. But, there's only six people in the module, and there's more people in this year than last, so there was probably only five or six people there last year too. So, that means three people failed and three people passed. It doesn't seem that significant any more. =/

I'm going to be eating articles over the next couple of days to hand this in. D:

My cold: the good thing is that it didn't get worse (yey, because the topic that I want to do for Lifespan Development was being covered yesterday), the small fever went down - but I did develop a heck of a lotta sniffles and my throat get pretty rough today. (Ahaha. My Lifespan Development lecturer didn't understand me when I said 'aggression', which is the topic I wanna do. Also sounded like I was crying a couple of times.) They both cleared up by the time I got home. :) So it could be completely gone by tomorrow.

Honours Project. Blllarg. A, my tutor for the honours project tutorial, was really surprised that my proposal was rejected. Not to mention, I'd talked to other lecturers about this and they were okay with it (one gave me the idea while the other thought it was good but I just needed to add more to it). ^ ^ I think I worded it really badly, and emphasised one part too much.

We were told about someone who's topic was sadomasochism, which was shot down instantly. Talked to my friends after, wondering who that was, but we came to the fast conclusion who it could have been - turned out we were right. XD She's that kind of person who'd do that.

Sorta maybe hopefully cleared things up about my project, but it does look like I'll have to change the original idea, which is fine because it does seem a little... something, uh, meh, boring? Idunno. Anyway. Talked to C, ~~It's a good thing all my teachers have different names, isn't it?~~ and he went yeah, creative writing is doable, though I'm not sure about your project idea. Hopefully I'll be seeing him tomorrow.

Okay, really hoping because I have to hand in my final draft on Wednesday next week. Worth five percent of the entire thing, but still, I should know what I'm doing by now and all that.

So, I'm kinda back to my original topic of creative writing and nothing else. =/ Back at the start. Suuuucks.

Did I mention that C shares the same office with the supervisor that I wanted? (And is also the other guy that I was recommended but I felt that was too serious.) So, I'm also hoping that G isn't there, because I have a feeling that I could be going, 'Uh, yeah, so I had this idea [that G gave me] but I don't wanna do it anymore so... can you give me any suggestions?'

Also, maybe he's not as serious [I don't think I'm using the right word here anymore...] as I thought he was. There's just something... funny about having a lecturer sign his e-mails with
'Cheers,
[his name]'

Or is that just me?

The reply I got from the person I sent my project proposal was 'I am sorry but I do not see a psychology project here. It looks very general and needs to have some relevance to an aspect of psychology.' Go contact other people to see how to make it into a psychological study.

Suuuucks. DDD: ~~Creative writing. Writing is a part of psychology, blaaah. We covered it two years ago.~~

Aaaand my cold seems to have gotten a little worse. -____-;; Just hope it doesn't get even more worse tomorrow.

So I sent my project proposal on Wednesday, and we were told that, at the latest, we'd get comments back on it by Friday. Um. Still haven't got anything back yet. =/

I have the beginnings of a cooooold. DDD: Ugh. Sucks so bad. I really hope it doesn't get worse, but I have a feeling that it will. DDD:

I wanna go back to tamingthemuse to get me at least writing something for Fullmetal Ninja (and I've had the latest chapter done for a while, just not re-betaed) but if I'm having problems writing five-hundred words every two weeks for halfprince_fics, I'd say it'd be worse if I had to write the same amount in one. Not to mention, I want to keep halfprince_fics at least some sort of semblance of active.

Saying that, I've begun to write a Natsume Yuujinchou/ Bleach crossover. ^ ^ It could easily become a multichaptered fic, but hopefully it'll stay a one-shot. No idea how long it'll be. Probably under a thousand words.

I should probably type up and post the Hand x Red/.hack crossover too, shouldn't I?

Ahahaha. Um. So, I'm attempting to do the Animal Behaviour homework, where I'm to plot a graph in excel and 'conduct the appropriate statistal analysis'. The thing is, the last time I used excel, it was before it got updated. So I don't know how to make a graph.

I think I'll just try this on SPSS...

Although it's been a while since I've last used that too. But at least that has menus labelled 'Graphs'.

*tilts head* So I've done a scatter graph, and I've got a line of best fit, where generally, the larger the flock, the more a goose forages. Is that it? Fourth year course and I'm doing scatter graphs? =/ Um. This seems too easy.

The assignment for this got posted up yesterday. A two-thousand report on either
(1) Discuss the extent of cognition in birds.
(2) Discuss the role of the hormone prolactin as an influence on alloparental behaviour in non-humans.
(3) Review and evaluate the evidence relating to theory of mind in non-humans.
(4) Critically review the evidence that kin selection is the major factor promoting helping behaviour in cooperatively breeding birds and mammals.
Which doesn't seem that bad, I guess. We'll be told about these as the weeks go on. (Cognition though, ugh.) I'll probably be doing 2.
The problem for me is that this is due in the week that I have to hand in the Ethics Approval form and all the other hand-ins after that. DDD: Gaaaaaaah.

More honours project stuff.

I'm doing my draft version of my project proposal and eeeeeh. I can answer most of the key points, but I'm starting to think that my literature review will be pretty bare once I start writing it. For the proper propsal, I'm supposed to have "Five recent and/or significant references properly documented (Harvard style) and explain how they relate to your proposed area of study."

My proposed area of study is on creative writing and qualitative data collection. =/ Yeah, sure, I could say stuff about... creative writing and health, learning English as a second language, therapy, but that's not specifically on my topic. Books on creative writing? Well, articles on a researcher just getting information from a creative writer - so I have a comparison from my research. Okay, got something. Getting articles on qualitative data on itself however... *cough*

This is probably why R was asking me to also focus on something else.

I should make a subject for the participants to write about for two weeks time.

October is going to be sooo hectic.

So had a talk with my maybe!supervisor.

Ahahaha... Um. The majority of the ideas I had were would mean analysing the resuts quantitatively, which is a little silly for something like creative writing. Whoops. That, and I was just going for skills of creative writing.

He was talking about narrative psychology, but I'm not interested in it, along with other ideas.

Then he talked about using creative writing as a way of qualitatively gathering data. :D Also? This means no SPSS, and if it goes well, I could get all my data by before christmas. (It also means that I probably won't be asking people on the internet. Awww...)

I found it funny how the maybe!supervisor was sort of hesitant at the start about the subject, not really having an expertise in the area, but being really interested at the end of the meeting. XDD

I was directed towards the same guy I was yesterday, because he's done a Ph.D in creativity. Didn't know that. So I e-mailed him. @___@ I got a little confused about my own topic and had to be verbally slapped up the head by my boyfriend to get unconfused. I think he thinks that what I want to do is just how I want to do something, not what I actually want to research. So, for me, what I have my participants write a story about isn't that important, just so long as they write about the same thing and I can analyse it but, for him, it's what I have them write about is the topic, and the creative writing part is just a twist that makes my research different from previous studies.

And then he directed me towards another person. *snerk* XD Gaaaah~ To the guy I knew about at the start, but didn't really want him since he's the serious guy.

Book stuff.
There doesn't seem to be that many qualitative textbooks in my uni library. =/

Psychology of Creative Writing came yesterday and I've read through quite a bit of it already. :3 I can't use a lot of it, especially now, but it just so... idunno, cool, nice to read about all this stuff and what other people have found. My maybe!supervisor caught me reading it as I was waiting for him and he started flicking through it. He noticed one of the names cropping up (Pennebaker) and asked if I remembered it. I said yeah, he's(?) mentioned in other articles I've read - my maybe!supervisor had talked about Pennebaker in Counselling last semester. ^ ^;; Ahaha. Eep. At least I was able to say a vague defintion of narrative psychology when he asked about that.

So I tried to find the Journal of Creative Behaviour in my library. The catalogue does say that it does have it, but it's not listed on the rolling stacks, nor on them, which the librarian found worrying. What's annoying is that someone's taken two of them, and from the dates they're supposed to be returned, they were taken out yesterday. So, it could be a case of someone getting the books and then not putting it back properly, but that still doesn't explain why the journals aren't listed on the rolling stacks. Anyway. Got loads of other articles anyway.

Animal Behaviour.
Well, that was an interesting tutorial today. We were covering how to count animal behaviours so we were split into four groups to count barnacle geese's foraging and vigilant behaviour. So one group had to count the number of times a geese foraged (it actually took a bite), another had to cound how many times a geese showed vigilant behaviour [these were with the actual clicky counters], another had to time how how it foraged for, and the last how long it was vigilant for.

I was in the first group. So. Much. Fun. XD We had to be the most active group. So, for over twenty minutes (we were shown a one minute clip, the clip was paused, and then we were shown another one minute clip) all you could hear was,

Had a nine o'clock start - and finished at six. And then had volunteering until eight.

The class at nine was about the honours project, where I was given another couple of ideas, told of another person I could have as a supervisor, or just a person I could talk to about my project. Also, I realised that, um, some of the topics that I want to do may as well just be a survey, and not actually be researching something, or they don't really have a basis in psychology. Um. Nuts. And I'm meeting with my maybe!supervisor tomorrow.

Had my first AiAB lecture - the lecturer is still as zany as she was two years ago, and the class doesn't seem too bad (but this was just the introduction). There's only six psychology students in this module.

As for the first Psychology of Lifespan Development lecture... Well, the site where we get the lecture notes was down for the lecturer, so she couldn't put anything up until three, where I was still moving in between classes. Bleeeh. So she was moving at a pace where she assumes people don't have to write as much.

And the coursework for her is to do a 2,500 word literature review. =/ It's for the week in between sending in the ethical approval form before and the critical bibliography after for honours project.

So I have an honours project to do this year. As an elective, I've taken Advances in Animal Behaviour. I've had a friend point out to me that there's a timeable clash - the honours project tutorial overlaps with the AiAB lecture.

I e-mailed the lecturer to tell her this, kind of going 'nooooo' because the other tutorial is on a Thursday, and it would be my only class of the day. I got a reply back from her saying 'To accommodate the students who want to take Advances in Animal Behaviour, I am running a separate lecture for the Honours Project in [room number] at 1500-1600' and that she '[knows] that the Advances in Animal Behaviour class does not finish until 1500 but I will wait until all of the students arrive to start the 'lecture''. Sounds good, doesn't it?

They're in different campuses. DD:

At least they're pretty close to each other, only about fifteen minutes by bus.

I looked at the folder I'd started last year for this. D: I'd saved a large number of articles, and even noted down a few ideas [The effect writing has on health (does it stress you, make you feel relaxed?), The difference between a novice, non-writer or an expert, Difficulties with creative writing]. Apart from maybe the health one, I don't want to do them. =P

Also been looking at my honours project tag - I'm soooo glad I'd put down what books to look at. Unfortunately, I can only find one of them on amazon (for over twenty pounds) but I did find one called 'Psychology of Creative Writing'. :D I wants iiiiit. Also, over twenty pounds but still...

First offical week of uni: done. @___@

Not that I've done much.

On Tuesday, I came in at nine, to matriculate, but found out that I didn't have to, since I'd already matriculated online. *facepalm*

Yesterday, we were told about some more changes in the course and the dreaded honours project. There's fifty-five people in psychology and psychology majors, and because of this, for some reason, the higher-ups want us to be split into two tutorial groups. *looks at the number* We're supposed to have at the very most thirteen/eighteen, I can't remember which. So, yeah.

For Psychology of Lifespan Development, our reading pack is the size of fairly big textbook - and that's part A. Not to mention, for Monday, we've supposed to have read sixty pages. I've worked through thirty pages, and also looked up the past papers, and I have no idea what the other thirty pages are talking about. =/ Fun. Also, the topics in this first week, two or three of them show up in the exam past papers. OMG.

The honours project. We were told about this guy, who, after handing in his first draft of his report and was told about the problem areas, decided not to change them, but it just take them out. D: He went from a 2:1 to just scraping a pass.

We were also told that 'certain supervisors were usually in demand *lists them off*, then the cuddly ones are taken *lists*'. XD We laughed. The supervisor I want seems to be in demand too - he's a friendly guy. The other possible person I could have is the opposite - well, not exactly, but he's more serious. ;p So I'm seeing my first choice on Wednesday, at nine. Fun.

Also, I still have no idea about what my topic is, apart from 'creative writing'. :S I need to narrow it down. One thing that's... weird for me, is that 'fanfiction' does, actually, turn up results. That, and the one that I read was talking about these people writing Dragonball Z fanfiction. Possibly Mary Sue fanfiction, but I don't think the researcher knew that.

One thing I might want to try is something about creative writing/fanfiction and community/fandom?

I went to sleep at eight yesterday, and didn't wake up until half-five; a little bit longer than how I usually sleep. =/ Dunno, just been feeling sleepy over the last couple of days.

... Wow. Lookit all them commas.

EDIT: Ahaha. Ahahahaha~~~ So, I just said that 'fanfiction' doesn't exactly turn up a lot of results, right? Reading through one article, they were using 'fan fiction'. Oh, yeah, I forgot about that spelling. Put it in.

Also, *squee* just because 1/2 Prince is now ranked 35 30 (it was 35, like, yesterday!) in OneManga - when I first started reading this, it was somewhere like 244 or something.

Also also, I really wish I'd taken not of how many comments and views were on this video (what was referenced in the last chapter) because I'm fairly sure there was no comments and about 2-4,000 views, or 500.
